This is not a simple exam and a continues preparation is needed for it. The preparation should start after completion of your 12th Standard. The IAS exam is not like other competitive exams. How to prepare for IAS without Coaching
Coaching is not only the solutions for IAS preparation; even we can reach the point with our own planning. Let us discuss them through point wise and make a note of these points:
Collect the previous subject’s notes and textbook and go through them at least twice in a week. This preparation should start after finishing your 12th class.

Go through the important points and make a note of them in running notes. If it is Mathematics subject then practice it thoroughly.
Among the entire first thing to do is to manage your time effective and plan accordingly.
Download previous exam question paper and practice it for an idea. Main thing to remember is to understand the subject and memorise what you are studying. Watch videos of successful person who have succeeded in exams.

Know the examination Pattern and the syllabus
The UPSC examination is conducted in three stages, the first exam is Preliminary, next Main and the last stage is interview. The candidate who qualified in preliminary will undergo to write Main Examinations. The Preliminary exam consists of two papers. 1st paper is of 100 marks for 100 questions, which is conducted in the morning section and second paper in the afternoon section. The second paper is of 80 marks and the questions are related to logical and comprehensive questions. Negative marking for wrong answers and the candidate must gain 45% marks out of both papers to get qualify in Preliminary Exam.
